What an excellent post Andy and stunning pictures to boot! There are also specialised holidays to be had here like tennis camp, live in Spanish courses and hotel/training packages for passing PADI licenses. These make your holiday souvenir the new skill that you take home with you. Beats a packet of mojo verde and a souvenir camel toy hands down, I'd say. :)

Thank you, Sylla. I will certainly be taking your advice and venturing further next time. One of my favourite tapas bars in Puerto has chorizo de Teror. The way it was served, I thought it should have been terror instead of Teror, so I'd very much like to see where it comes from.

I loved reading your article on Las Palmas, having lived and worked there in my young formative years. It still holds a very special place in my heart.

Next time venture into the lovely country side in that area. The Town of Teror. Bandama Crater and Arucas, just to name a few. The landscape more gentle than Tenerife but beautiful .

Ha! Well, Victoria, it's high time you paid us a visit! You'll find a an island filled with contrasts. How can you see Mount Teide from your island and not be tempted to go and see her at close range?!
I'm sure you'd enjoy discovering your neighbour just as much as I did. :)

Nice post and a reverse reflection of my situation really -- been 11 years on Gran Canaria but Tenerife is foreign lands to me even though I can see it from where I live on a clear day!

Does anyone know anything about the origin of the cloth tapestries that hang on the walls in the official building in Ayuntamiento Plaza in Orotava.
I have a similar one which I would like to sell as it is huge - over 3metres in length.

Hi Stephen, sadly we were working too, but I missed your comment, sorry - I blame carnaval fatigue. We're keeping a close eye on the weather (not difficult at the mo) as friends may be coming up for the High Heels drag race on Friday, the highlight of carnaval for many. Fingers crossed this weather front is gone and the event isn't postponed.
